Sekaa Gong Wanita Mekar Sari was founded in 1986 at Puri Kaleran, Peliatan by the late Anak Agung Gede Mandera. All members of this group are Women from the village of Peliatan, and this group is formed primarily for the purpose of developing the women’s musical skills and talents, and to enrich the music and dance repertoire available in Peliatan. In addition to presenting routine tourist performances. Mekar Sarialso performs at social and religious functions when requested.
After undergoing a period of training and practice, Mekar Sari began to be entrusted to represent Gianyar in various events. Some of these have included:
|1998||Participating in the Women’s Gamelan Festival (Festival Gong Kebyar Wanita) held as part of the 20th Balinese Festival of the Arts (PKB XX), in which they were awarded second prize for their performance.|
|1999||Participating in the Women’s Gamelan Festival (Festival Gong Kebyar Wanita) held as part of the 21st Balinese Festival of the Arts (PKB XXI), in which they were awarded 3rd prize for their performance.|
At present, Mekar Sari has 70 members, consisting of:
- 36 musicians
- 34 dancers

- Pendet (welcome dance)
- Baris Wirayuda (group warrior dance)
- Kelinci (rabbit dance)
- Kupu-kupu Tarum (butterfly dance)
- Nelayan (fishermen’s dance)
Slight changes are sometimes made to the program depending on the availability of dancers.
